Indoor Track & Field Awards Announced

3.25.25

INDIANAPOLIS—The Great Midwest Athletic Conference announced the all-conference and end of the year awards for the 2024-25 indoor track & field season.

It was another banner season for the Great Midwest member institutions as over 40 student-athletes from the league were poised to make their mark at the NCAA Championships in Indianapolis to transition to the outdoor season.

The Great Midwest Indoor Track & Field Championships were once again housed at Ashland’s Niss Athletic Center as the Tiffin men and Ashland women repeated as conference champions. Tiffin won its second consecutive title as they hoisted the trophy for the fourth time in program history. The Ashland women won their second championship with a total of 191.5 team points.

The all-conference teams are composed of a first and second team, with the top finish in either track or field event taking priority if a student-athlete was entered in multiple events.

Ashland led all schools for both men’s and women’s with a combined 25 student-athletes on either first or second team all-conference.

The coaches also voted their picks for the end of the year awards, separate from the meet awards that were presented at Ashland.

Lake Erie's Harry Ross-Hughes was voted the male Track Athlete of the Year, Hillsdale’s Ben Haas was Great Midwest Field Athlete of the Year, and Tiffin’s Kevin Kean on male Coach of the Year for the second straight season. Findlay's Kage Hefner was voted as the league's top freshman.

Ross-Hughes, a three time all-conference selection, was a top performer at the national meet. He clocked an 800m time of 1:48.91 to take home national champion and all-American honors at the national meet. The junior currently holds five of the top 10 times in the G-MAC record books in the 800, including a conference-best 1:48.57.

Hillsdale’s Haas was also tabbed a national champion in the weight throw with a personal best mark of 22.89m. Haas’ mark ranks as the best in the conference to date. He became the first Hillsdale indoor national champion since 2010.

Findlay’s rookie Kage Hefner qualified for the NCAA Division II Championship in the pole vault. Entering the national meet, Hefner ranked ninth in the pole vault with a mark of 5.18m, the highest-ranking G-MAC freshman.

On the women’s side, Findlay’s  Kylie Ray was announced as the female Track Athlete of the Year. Ray is coming off an all-American performance at the national meet. She was a member of the 4x400m relay team that earned runner-up, only six-thousandths of a second behind first place. Ray then went on to post a personal-best time of 53.91 in the 400m dash to finish sixth in the event.

Ashland’s Molly Winner earned her first all-American honor this season by finishing runner-up in the weight throw. The redshirt sophomore heaved a throw of 19.93m and currently holds three of the top 10 throws in Great Midwest history.

Hillsdale freshman Evyn Humphrey made a remarkable debut in her first collegiate season. Humphrey qualified for the national meet in the mile, where she entered the event ranked 12th with a time of 4:48.94. At the conference meet, she finished first in the mile and runner-up in the 3000m.

Tiffin’s Kevin Kean and Ashland’s A.G. Kruger repeated as Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year.

Kean led the Tiffin men to their fourth conference title and had five student-athletes qualify for the national meet. Kean finished the indoor season with one national champion in Joshua Page. Page was crowned a national champion in the 400m, clocking a time of 45.78. The Dragons ended the regular season ranked 11th in the country.

Kruger and the Eagles won back-to-back conference championships while also sending nine student-athletes to the national meet.

Student-athletes will now gear up for the outdoor season, with the championship set to take place in Ashland, Ohio.
