Great Midwest Announces Bowling All-Conference Awards

NEWPORT, Ky.- The Great Midwest Athletic Conference, in conjunction with Conference Carolinas, will host their second men’s and women’s bowling championship March 21-March 23. The championship will be held at Super Bowl Bellewood, located in Newport, Ky.
 
The event will feature a best-of-seven baker match format with the championship matches being contested in the mega-match format. This year’s championship has four participating  schools on the men’s side and six on the women. Thomas More, Ursuline, and Walsh will represent schools from the Great Midwest.
 
Following the qualifying matches on Friday, both conferences recognized all-conference and individual award selections, as voted by the league’s coaches. C.J. Herbers of Thomas More and Ethan Gary of Walsh were selected as Men’s Co-Bowlers of the Year. Throughout the regular season, Herbers recorded 209 strikes at 39.3%  per ball. He ranks in the top 10 of the conference in fill percentage at 82.6% and earned Bowler of the Month honors earlier this season. Herbers also won the conference's Elite 26 award for academic excellence. Ethan Gary proved to be a consistent bowler for the Cavaliers, with 105 strikes. He also registered a 60.9% makeable spares on the year.
 
Thomas More’s Alexei Hunt and Walsh’s Jack Furman earned Co-Freshman of the Year honors. Hunt posted an average fill percentage of 80.1% during his collegiate debut.
 
On the women’s side, Ursuline’s Lucille Petkac was voted the Bowler of the Year after putting up some impressive numbers throughout the season. Petkac bowled 138 total strikes, while putting up a fill percentage of 80.2%. She proved to be a consistent anchor for the Arrows, posting a team-high 10-frame average of 17.64.
 
Hallie Holtzman of Thomas More garnered Freshman of the Year honors after an impressive rookie season. Holtzman ranks third on the team in number of strike with 129 on the year.
 
Walsh's Maggie Lewis was named the Elite 26 award winner on the women's side. Lewis is a senior majoring in clinical labratory science.
