2026 Bowling Award Winners Announced

NEWPORT,Ky.- The Great Midwest Athletic Conference, in conjunction with Conference Carolinas, will host their second men’s and women’s bowling championship March 20-March 23. The championship will be held at Super Bowl Bellewood, located in Newport, Ky.
 
The event will feature a best-of-seven baker match format with the championship matches being contested in the mega-match format. This year’s championship has four participating  schools on the men’s side and six on the women. Thomas More, Ursuline, and Walsh will represent schools from the Great Midwest.
 
Following the qualifying matches on Friday, both conferences recognized all-conference and individual award selections, as voted by the league’s coaches. Jacob Fitzgerald of Thomas More and Jack Furman of Walsh were selected as Men’s Co-Bowlers of the Year. Fitzgerald averaged a score of 197.6 over 50 games this season with a total pin fall of 9,880. Furman played 362 frames this season, posting an average of 17.80 per frame. Furman’s average per frame ranks second in the conference.
 
Thomas More’s Aiden Lewis and Walsh’s Brayden Darkow earned Co-Freshmen of the Year honors. During his rookie season, Lewis competed in 20 games and registered a total pin fall of 3,673, finishing his first regular season with an average of 183.65. For Darkow, the freshman total 283 frames during the regular season with a 16.98 average per frame.
 
On the Women’s side, Walsh’s Rachel Young was voted Bowler of the Year. The Canton, Ohio native totaled 480 frames with an average of 18.067 per frame.
 
Maire Brogan of Thomas More garnered Freshman of the Year honors after an impressive rookie season. Brogan posted an average of 151 through 24 games, with a 3,626 total pin fall.
 
The Saints swept the Elite 26 Award for academic excellence. Baylee Spickard won on the women’s side, while C.J. Herbers won the award for the second consecutive season.
