Great Midwest Announces Bowling All-Conference Teams

INDIANAPOLIS- The Great Midwest Athletic Conference, in conjunction with Conference Carolinas, will host their third men’s and women’s bowling championship March 22-24. The Championship will be held at Liberty Lanes, located in Gastonia, North Carolina.
 
The event will feature a best of seven baker match format with the championship matches being contested in the mega-match format. This year’s championship has six participating schools on the men’s side and eight on the women’s side. Kentucky Wesleyan, Thomas More, Ursuline, and Walsh will be representing institutions from the Great Midwest.
 
Following the qualifying matches on Friday, both conferences will recognize all-conference and individual selections, as voted on by the league’s coaches.
 
Robert Komlosi of Walsh was voted the Men’s Bowler of the Year. Through the regular season, Komlosi bowled an average of 205 through
 
Freshman Nathan Davis from Walsh was voted as the league’s top-freshman, while Bailey McGinnis won the Elite 26 award for academic excellence. McGinnis is a junior majoring in legal studies.
 
On the women’s side, Maycie Merritt of Thomas More and Miranda Cain of Kentucky Wesleyan  were selected as Co-Bowlers of the Year. Merritt was Thomas More’s top bowler, leading the the Saints with an average of 162.
 
Cain has been a consistent anchor for the Panthers, earning several all-tournament team honors. She finished the regular season strong at the Viking Classic, where she was the top finisher.
 
Kentucky Wesleyan and Thomas More were also represented for the Freshman of the Year award as Elizabeth Steil and Maddux Scharett shared the honor. Steil bowled an averaged of 152 during her freshman campaign. 
 
Allison McDonald, a Thomas More senior, is the women’s Elite 26 recipient. McDonald is studying Psychology and was recognized as having the highest GPA, while also being an active participant for the Saints.
 
Nine men and women bowlers were voted to each all-conference team. The depth of talent in the conference was well-represented on the all-conference teams as each of the four participating schools landed at least one indviidual on the all-conference list.
