ASHLAND, Ohio- Ashland University and the Niss Athletic Center will serve as host to the 2024 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday (Feb. 23) and Saturday (Feb. 24) for the second consecutive year.

Both Findlay men and women will look to claim their third consecutive title, after winning in 2022 and 2023. The Oilers currently hold the most titles on the men’s side with four, winning in 2018, 2021, 2022, and 2023. In the national rankings, Tiffin is No. 12 followed by Ashland at No. 24.
On the women’s side, Findlay and Tiffin are featured in the Top 25 heading into Friday’s competition. Findlay is slotted at No. 13 and Tiffin lands at No. 21.
The top two finishers in each event will receive all-conference honors and “of the meet” awards will be awarded to the highest point-getters at the end of the championship. The Great Midwest Elite 26 award winners will also be honored.
Several Great Midwest records have been broken this year on both the men’s and women’s side.
On the men’s side, Northwood’s Dillan Haviland shattered the mile time, previously held by Walsh’s Zach Kreft. Haviland registered a time of 4:01.46 this season at the GVSU Alumni Open. His time currently ranks 9
th in the nation.
Lake Erie’s Harry Ross-Hughes sits atop the records books in the 800-meter run with a G-MAC best time of 1:49.27. Ross-Hughes holds the top three times in the 800 in Great Midwest history and is ranked 3
rd in the country.
Another top performer on the men’s side is Hillsdale thrower Ben Haas. Haas has been dominant in the weight throw with the second best mark in the country at 21.78. The sophomore has won athlete of the week honors the past two weeks. The weight throw event has considerable depth this season as three Great Midwest student-athletes are ranked in the Top 10. In addition to Haas, Tiffin’s Jacob McPherson and Walsh’s Dominic Nutter stand at 7
th and 8
th in the national standings, respectively.
The women are headlined by several student-athletes who have hit provisional marks in their events.
Last year’s Freshman of the Year Kya Epps continues to impress this year with top times in the 60m and 200m sprints. Her 60m time ranks 12
th (7.44), while her 200 time is 9
th (24.02). Epps has five of the top 10 times in the 60m in Great Midwest history.
Tiffin’s Ines Macadam and Ursuline’s Alaysia Brooks hold the 3
rd and 4
th best times in the 800 this season. Macadam clocked and time of 2:08.91 while Brooks was not far behind at 2:09.12.
In field events, Findlay’s reigning national champion Trista Fintel broke the Great Midwest record in the shot put with a mark of 16.08m. Fintel holds four of the top 10 marks in the record book and is ranked 2
nd in the country.
Like the men, the shot put will have a competitive showing with five student-athletes ranked in the top 15. Fintel leads the way followed by Hillsdale’s Averi Parker (6
th), Ashland’s Kelsey Kinsley (11
th), Findlay’s Paige Emnett (12
th), and Ashland’s Molly Winner (14
th).
