12.7.22

INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Midwest indoor track and field regular season is off and running in 2022.

Findlay enters the 2022-2023 indoor season as the reigning Great Midwest Men’s and Women’s Champions. The Oilers jump started their season hosting the Oiler Open on Dec. 2. The 12-team event featured five other Great Midwest institutions to open the season. Both the men and women took home first-place in the team scoring.

Findlay returns a host of All-Conference performers from both championship teams including Freshman of the Year Chris Campbell, on the men’s side. Findlay’s Jared Krout returns for his second year at the helm of the Oiler indoor program. He was also voted the men’s and women’s Coach of the Year by his peers for the 2021-2022 indoor season.

The Hillsdale women’s team returns two Great Midwest standouts for the indoor season. Nikita Maines enters this season as the reigning Indoor Field Athlete of the Year. The Chargers also see Freshman of the Year Averi Parker return to the lineup this season.

Nationally, the Ashland men’s team garnered the top finish of the conference field. The Eagles finished in second place at the 2022 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships. The men were led to that runner-up finish by a trio of national championships. The Eagles will do their best to replace Great Midwest Athlete of the Year Trevor Bassitt, who was a part of all three indoor titles in 2022.

The conference saw 26 All-America honors return from the 2022 Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships.

The 2023 Great Midwest Indoor Track & Field Championships will take place Feb. 24-25 at Niss Athletic Center in Ashland, Ohio.
