INDIANAPOLIS –
Four specialized awards to celebrate the conclusion of the 2020-21 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Track & Field season were announced on Thursday afternoon.

The top three place winners from each event at the Great Midwest Indoor Championships in Cedarville were presented with medals for all-conference honors on site.

Additionally, all 10 national qualifiers from the conference on the men’s side earned Division II All-American status at the NCAA Championships in Birmingham, Ala.

All end-of-the-year awards were voted upon by the league coaches. They are also different from the ‘of the meet’ awards earned at Cedarville that go to the highest point earners from the championship event.

Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year
Noah Schaub – Malone

Schaub was the conference champion in the 3K and 5K, the only two-time event winner at the Great Midwest meet along with Walsh’s Xavier Foehl.

The senior owns two of the top 10 times from conference history recorded in the 3K and he set a new conference championship record in the 5K with a time of 14:48.57.

Schaub also owns the overall conference record in the 5K from his junior campaign while clocking a 14:17.53 in 2020 at the Grand Valley State Big Meet.

Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Year
Sterling Mungro – Findlay

Mungro brought home a national championship in Alabama for the Oilers, setting a new conference record in the process in the weight throw competition with a distance of 22.45m.

It was the third conference title recorded in the event after another former Findlay standout, Austin Combs, won national championships in 2018 and 2019.

Mungro was also the conference champion in weight throw at Cedarville. He had broken the conference record previously in the 2020-21 season with a launch of 21.74m at the GVSU Tune-Up.

Men’s Indoor Freshman of the Year
Jamahl Burke – Hillsdale

Burke earned conference track athlete of the week honors once and was also a first team all-conference selection for the Chargers as a member of the 4x400 relay.

He was part of three different top 10 efforts by Hillsdale in the 4x400 relay and the group established a new conference record with a time of 3:14.98 at the GVSU Big Meet in mid-February.

He ran a provisional time at the conference championship meet in the 400-meter dash in 48.82 and was runner-up only to Findlay All-American Xavier Marable.

Men’s Indoor Coach of the Year
Blaine Maag – Findlay

The Oilers were conference champions under Maag’s guidance with a team score of 157 points, marking their second title since joining the league. Findlay also claimed a team title in 2018 during its first attempt in the conference meet at Hillsdale.

He also sent three individuals from the men’s side to nationals including All-Americans Josh Verhoff, Marable and Mungro.
