INDIANAPOLIS –
Following Monday’s selection announcement for the 2021 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championship, a total of 14 grapplers from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference found out they will be packing their bag for St. Louis.

The championship is March 12-13 at America’s Convention Center. Both days of the championship will stream live on NCAA.com. Live coverage is still to be determined on both competition dates.

Six different Super Regionals were conducted over the weekend with automatic qualifiers punching their ticket and at-large selections being chosen by the national committee. Tiffin was the host of Super Region III with Findlay, Lake Erie, Ashland and Ohio Valley, in attendance, while Kentucky Wesleyan went to Oklahoma as part of Super Region IV.

At least one qualifier is represented from the conference in all 10 weight classes. Both 141, 149, 165 and 197, each have two individuals in their bracket.

Associate member and conference team champion Ashland is sending six individuals to nationals including Christian Wellman (125), Luke Wymer (141), Carson Speelman (149), Daniel Beemer (174), Aidan Pasiuk (184) and Tristen Weirich (HWT).

Lake Erie will be traveling three, including Super Region III champion James Penfold at 165. The Storm also qualified Sean O’Hearon, who used to wrestle at 165, and Chris Droege with an at-large selection from a tough field at 197.

Findlay will carry two to nationals. The Oilers have the nation’s No. 1 wrestler at 157, James Wimer, who was the Great Midwest Wrestler of the Meet in Owensboro. He was another Super Region III champion during the weekend. Also making the field is top 10-ranked Branson Proudlock, who is just a sophomore at 141 and the reigning conference freshman of the year.

Tiffin’s Nick Mason was Super Region III champ at 197 and still the defending national champion from 2019 at his weight class. The Dragons will also see senior Bryan LaVearn as a national qualifier at 165.
