INDIANAPOLIS – Three different events on Friday and Saturday were completed as Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week were released on Tuesday morning.
Hillsdale hosted The Sequential Border War featuring Findlay and incoming 2021-22 member Ashland in the Biermann Center. Kentucky Wesleyan lifted the lid on its season by participating in the Samford Open down in Alabama. Malone, Ohio Dominican, Tiffin and Walsh, were all in the field at the Dragon Revolution Classic hosted by the Dragons.
Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
Xavier Marable
Findlay
Sprints
Junior
Clayton, OH (Northmont HS)
Marable usually crosses the line first before the field in pretty much any event so far that we’ve seen in the 2020-21 indoor season. Factoring his most recent performance at The Sequential Border War with Ashland/Hillsdale, the junior speedster already has five individual wins to his credit in just three events.
He clocked another provisional time in his signature event, the 400-meter dash, which continues to rank among the top marks in Division II.
Marable finished in 48.96, which is his second-best effort of the year (48.23 at the Tiffin Challenge) and ranks only behind Lee’s Wynand Du Toit (47.18) nationally.
Marable earned his second indoor conference athlete of the week honor for the season and also the fourth indoor nod of his career.
Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week
Sterling Mungro
Findlay
Throws
Junior
DeSoto, TX (Desoto HS/Iowa Central HS)
Mungro earned USTFCCCA All-American status in both the weight throw and shot put during the 2019-20 indoor season.
His performance at The Sequential Border War stacked him in a deep throws unit across Division II with a provisional distance in the shot put.
The junior won both shot put and weight throw (20.91m) on Saturday, not surprising given his current rank nationally. Mungro previously auto qualified in the weight throw at the Tiffin Challenge and remains one of just two auto qualifiers this season.
Mungro ranks 14th in the shot put after his toss of 16.72m (54’10.25”).
