BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
– A total of 31 student-athletes from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference will be bidding for placement at the awards podium when the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships start tomorrow at the CrossPlex facility.

Sixteen women and 15 men will compete at the highest level following different provisional and automatic qualifying marks/times recorded throughout the season.

Most NCAA qualifiers were able to put their skills on display at the Great Midwest Championships that were conducted at Tiffin. The league’s coaches will also be voting for their choice of athletes of the year following the conclusion of the national meet.

When pursuing a national title, it’s all about the strength in numbers to rack up points. Tiffin is widely viewed as one of the few team championship contenders with nine different qualifiers (some entered in multiple events) in the mix.

The Dragons will feature a heavy dose of throwers – conceivably, Jabari Bennett, Isaiah Allen, Nikolas Curtiss and Eric Jackson, could finish 1/2/3/4 in the shot put in any order.

In the short sprints, Jonte Baker, is ready to defend his national title in the 60-meter dash and in the 60-meter hurdles, Errik Snell is one of Division II’s best. Collin Jasin stole the show at the conference championship with a meet record in the pole vault.

Versatile senior Cameron Burrows is entered in three different events that could score huge points in the heptathlon, high jump and long jump. Another jumper, Quincy Scott, is considered to be another finalist in the long jump as he makes his second straight NCAA appearance.

Findlay is going to be represented by sophomore standout Xavier Marable in the 400-meter dash, Martin Etsey in the triple jump and Sterling Mungro will be busy in the cage in the shot put and weight throw.

Walsh will have one participant, conference record holder and sophomore Josh Conrad in the 800-meter run.

Tiffin also leads the women’s qualifiers with seven making the trip this season and five different Great Midwest institutions are traveling at least one participant. In the running events, Rajiah Andrews will be in the prelims of the 60-meter dash and hurdles.

Freshman Keyonna McGill will also be in the 60-meter. Reigning national champion Marisa Gwinner will be looking to defend her title in the high jump and will face added competition from Mercedeez Francis in the field.

Shot put specialists Nicole Berry and Brenda Johnson will be showcased in the throws cage and Jazilee Williams is looking to put on a show in the pentathlon.

Walsh will sport four different runners who qualified in the distance medley relay and Andra Lehotay is also competing in the 800-meter run. Hillsdale’s Kajsa Johansson is back at nationals again in the 200-meter dash and Nikita Maines will be competing in shot put.

Findlay has true freshman Lindsey Kluesener among the nation’s top heights in the pole vault while Hannah Hahler is the league’s fourth competitor in the shot put. Malone is also sending 2019 cross country champion Mackenna Curtis-Collins to run in the 3K.
