TIFFIN, Ohio
– The third-ranked program in the country put on a show at the Heminger Center for two days as Tiffin made it a successful endeavor for back-to-back trophies at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championships.

The Dragons held a commanding lead in the team scoring after day one and sealed the deal with multiple meet records broken during Saturday’s finals for a total of 214 points.

Tiffin joined the Great Midwest last year to compete as a full member for the first time and the dynamic program led by coach Jeremy Croy and his staff waved the victory flag during the 2019 event at Findlay.

Tiffin replicated that success with new meet records in the high jump, pole vault and 60-meter dash.

The loudest applause of the day may have come from the crowd cheering Tiffin’s Collin Jasin clearing 5.00 meters in the pole vault. He officially broke a three-way tie that was first set in 2015.

TU senior sprinter Jonte Baker was an absolute blur for the 60-meter dash meet record. He also showed sportsmanship along with Findlay’s Josh Verhoff as they helped carry an injured Tellis Horne (Malone) up to the awards podium to be recognized together.

Findlay was the runner-up with 121 points as several student-athletes accounted for big point totals in both track and field events. The top five teams included Hillsdale in third followed by Malone and Walsh.

Individual award winners recognizing most outstanding performers for the meet were also voted upon by the league’s coaches at the conclusion.

Sharing Great Midwest co-Freshman of the Meet awards were speedy first-year runners Joshua Page (Tiffin) and Verhoff of Findlay. In almost the same events, the pair qualified for the finals against upperclassmen and took their place multiple times at the awards podium.

Verhoff was second in both the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash only to defending NCAA champ Baker and his teammate Xavier Marable. Page was second in the 400-meter dash and placed third in the 200-meter dash and as a member of the 4x400 relay.

The Great Midwest Indoor Track Athlete of the Meet was Findlay’s Marable after the speedy sophomore ran to three first-place finishes.

Marable broke two different conference championship meet records in the 200m and 400m, clocking at 21.86 and 47.59, respectively.

He also appropriately closed out the championship festivities by anchoring the winning 4x400-meter relay, the final event on the meet schedule. Marable competed at the USATF Indoor Nationals earlier this year and is already seeded fourth nationally as an auto qualifier in the 400m.

The Great Midwest Field Athlete of the Meet was Tiffin senior Cameron Burrows as he dominated the long jump and high jump for gold medal placement. Burrows also took third in the pole vault.

Burrows cleared 2.10m in the high jump to break his own meet record from the 2019 edition.

He is just one of three auto qualifiers in DII in the high jump and also auto qualified for the heptathlon in the first event of the season. Tiffin also went 1-2-3 in the shot put featuring Jabari Bennett, Nikolas Curtiss and Eric Jackson in order.

Additional meet records were shattered by Hillsdale’s Ryan Thomsen in the heptathlon and Findlay’s Martin Etsey in the triple jump. Thomsen bested his own conference meet record from 2019 and Etsey passed Malone’s Tevin Riddle from 2018.
