Men’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week (Feb. 19)

INDIANAPOLIS – The regular season has come to a close around the league as Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Weeks were released on Tuesday. 
 
The Great Midwest Indoor Championships will be conducted on Friday and Saturday at Findlay in the Malcolm Athletic Center. 
 
Starting with the multis, the race for a men’s team championship trophy will be very competitive once again and the individual accolades are going to be interesting to monitor with many auto and provisional marks falling this year. 
 
Track Athlete of the Week
Drew Hickman
Tiffin

Dayton, OH (Northmont HS)
 
Hickman is another standout for the star-studded Dragons while competing in middle sprints and on multiple relay teams. 
 
His impact was felt at the Ohio State Tune-Up and Kent State Tune-Up as he gets ready for the conference championships. 
 
Hickman finished first in the both the 400-meter run and as a member of the 4x400-meter relay team. 
 
He ran the 400 in a time of 48.48, which ranks seventh all-time in the conference records. 
 
Hickman and three teammates (Chance Abbitt, Lamar Hargrove, Brandon Lynn) set a new conference record in the 4x4 relay with a provisional-qualifying time of 3:16.91. He ran the anchor leg as TU officially topped the previous best of 3:17.40 clocked by Ohio Dominican last season.

Combs is the defending national champion in the weight throw and put on a dazzling performance in the cage at the Flag City Open (hosted by Findlay) in his quest to repeat. 
 
The senior auto qualified for nationals in Pittsburg, Kan., with a new career-best of 21.71m (71’ 2.75”), which also broke his own conference record.
 
Combs won the event, which featured four Findlay throwers in the top of four of the weight throw standings. 
 
Combs is now ranked second in the country in the weight throw and own nine of the top 10 best throws in Great Midwest history.
