INDIANAPOLIS – Several student-athletes hit auto and provisional qualifying marks in their respective events during opening week as the first Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week awards were announced Tuesday.

At the Youngstown State Icebreaker, Conrad started the indoor season on a high note by recording a top 10 time in the 800-meter run.

Conrad finished second in the event with a time of 1:53.98, good for fourth all-time in conference history.

The reigning conference outdoor champion 800m champ officially holds the all-time indoor record dating back to the Kent State Tune-Up.

The Cavaliers competed at the YSU Icebreaker and the Toy Drive Invite housed at Mount Union. Walsh will be idle until mid-January of the new calendar year.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Cameron Burrows
Tiffin
Senior
Jumps/Multis
Sandusky, OH (Perkins HS)

What a way to burst on to the scene and make your presence known for the 2019-20 season.

Burrows guaranteed his trip automatically for nationals in Birmingham, Ala., in both the pentathlon and high jump at the Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kan., last year’s host site for the 2019 NCAA Indoor Championships.

The senior finished third overall at the Boo Rogers Combined Events with 5,381 points as he won both the high jump and long jump while finishing second in the 60-meter dash.

He was also third in the 60-meter hurdles and fourth in pole vault.

Burrows had a career best and broke his own conference record height in the high jump, officially clearing 2.19m (7’ 2.25”). He bested his 2.12m recorded at the SVSU Holiday Open last season.

Burrows was also just two points shy of matching the Great Midwest heptathlon points record; Findlay’s Trey Everett had 5,383 during the early part of the 2017 indoor season.

Burrows ranks first in Division II as the lone auto qualifier in high jump and was one of five auto qualifiers in the heptathlon during the first week of the season.

Burrows was an indoor and outdoor NCAA All-American in the high jump for 2018-19.
