2.6.18

INDIANAPOLIS – Cedarville produced a pair of Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week honors as announced on Tuesday.

Most records held up this week in the league as teams continue to get ready for the Great Midwest Indoor Championships at Hillsdale later this month.

The conference currently has a record number of provisional qualifiers to date in the regular season while Findlay’s two-time field athlete of the week Austin Combs has auto qualified in both the weight throw and shot put events.

Track Athlete of the Week
Daniel Michalski
Cedarville
Senior
Xenia, OH (Xenia HS)

Michalski broke his own conference record in the mile at the Akron Invitational with a provisional-qualifying time of 4:04.66.

He broke his previous record of 4:05.60 set last year at the Grand Valley State Big Meet and now possesses eight of the all-time top-10 marks in the event in conference history, including the championship record.

Michalski currently ranks 10th across NCAA Division II in the event. There are six auto qualifiers in the mile and 38 different provisional marks recorded.

Michalski is coming off a strong cross country season where he earned Great Midwest Runner of the Year honors. Between the sport of cross country and the indoor/outdoor track and field seasons, his career count of weekly conference honors is now up to 14 awards.

Field Athlete of the Week
Tommy Ansiel
Cedarville
Freshman
Warrenville, IL (Wheaton Warrenville South HS)

Ansiel threatened the conference pole vault record that has long been dominated by former Cedarville NCAA qualifier James Blackwell.

Inside the Doden Field House at the Cedarville Collegiate Invitational, Ansiel cleared 4.87m (15’ 11.75”) to provisionally qualify for nationals and rank top 25 in the country.

He also ranks fourth all-time in the conference record books behind Blackwell’s top standard of 4.93m at the G-MAC Indoor Championships in 2015.

Ansiel won the event on Saturday over eight others with heights cleared.
