NCAA DII Indoor T&F Qualifiers List
INDIANAPOLIS – There’s no place like home in Kansas where a total of 22 student-athletes from Great Midwest Athletic Conference institutions will be headed to compete in the 2018 NCAA Division II National Indoor Track & Field Championships.
The conference just conducted its championship event at Hillsdale College in the Biermann Athletic Center where a total of 27 (of a possible 34) combined men’s and women’s meet records were broken.
The NCAA Indoor T&F Championships will be held March 9-10 at the Robert W. Plaster Center and the host institution is Pittsburg State.
Leading the way with eight total national qualifiers Findlay, including five on the men’s side and three more from the women’s pool.
Great Midwest Female Athlete of the Meet and three-time conference athlete of the week Alex DeVincentis. She will be joined by throwing teammate Holly Averesch and speedster Milani Glass.
DeVincentis is gunning for NCAA All-American honors for the third consecutive season in shot put, a record she holds in the Great Midwest archives.
Auto qualifier Austin Combs is the national championship favorite in the shot put after recording Division II’s top park of 18.20m at the Tiffin Dragon Open. Combs also auto qualified in the weight throw with his season PR at the Great Midwest Championships of 21.40m.
Great Midwest Men’s Field Athlete of the Meet Trey Everett also goes into indoor nationals as the top overall seed in the heptathlon based on his point total accumulated at the Oiler Opener. He dominated jumps events with titles in the high jump and long jump at the conference meet.
Freshman Martin Etsey broke the conference record in the triple jump early in his rookie campaign and will represent the Oilers in the triple jump. Another first-year student-athlete, Dequan Lovell, qualified in his first attempt for nationals in both the shot put and weight throw like Combs.
UF junior George Effah also qualified provisionally and made the final field for the 400-meter dash. Effah helped set a conference meet record in the 4x4 relay and also did so in the 400.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Meet Joseph Humes is headed to nationals for the mile. Malone’s Ashton Dulin is one of the favorite in the 60-meter hurdles and cracked the under 8-second mark at the conference meet for a new all-time league record.
Senior Marcus Myers of Walsh also is part of the deep throws depth chart around the Great Midwest and will compete in the weight throw. He was also a previous conference field athlete of the week.
Great Midwest Track Athlete of the Meet Janelle Perry is entered in both the 60-meter hurdles and the long jump. She owns the top NCAA Division II time the 60-meter hurdles and has possession of the all top-10 long distances in conference history in the long jump.
Walsh will be sending five ladies, including four for the distance medley relay, and pole vault standout Kaitlyn Barber, who auto qualified for nationals early in the year.
Great Midwest women’s team champion Hillsdale will be traveling freshman Maryssa Depies (5K, 3K), Allysen Eads (mile), Arena Lewis (5K) and senior Hannah McIntyre (5K, 3K). Malone’s Hannah Thompson is also a national qualifier in a deep field represented with Great Midwest runners in the 5K.
