INDIANAPOLIS – Fourteen men’s and women’s track and field programs from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference demonstrated their scholastic prowess as part of the 2017 United State Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Teams.
There were 193 teams honored by the USTFCCCA for their academics (116 women’s, 77 men’s) for the 2016-17 year.
In order to be in contention for Scholar Team of the Year, a program must finish highly at the respective national championship meet and have at least a 3.00 cumulative team GPA.
Six current conference programs made the list topped by Findlay’s 3.31 team GPA. Walsh was a close second followed by Cedarville, Lake Erie and Hillsdale, respectively. Alderson Broaddus also made the list for the high academic team honor.
Also notable was the inclusion of Tiffin as the Dragons were named the Men’s Indoor Scholar Team of the Year after winning the national team title. Tiffin is scheduled to join the Great Midwest for the 2018-19 academic year.
Representation from the women’s programs were headlined by Cedarville with a 3.631 GPA. Alderson Broaddus, Walsh, Hillsdale, Findlay and Lake Erie, had both genders earn the academic team award while Malone and Ursuline also broke through on the list.
Tiffin’s women’s track & field program also earned the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Award.
