Record 11 to Represent G-MAC at NCAA Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
- A total of 11 student-athletes from three Great Midwest Athletic Conference institutions are set to compete at the Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships as part of the NCAA DII Winter Festival.

Hosted by the University of Alabama in Huntsville and the City of Birmingham, this year's Winter Festival will take place March 7-11 at the Crossplex in Birmingham.

National champions will be decided in men's and women's swimming and diving, men's and women's indoor track & field, and wrestling.

Five men's qualifiers and six women's qualifiers from the G-MAC will showcase their talents on the national stage competing for All-American and national champion status.

One student-athlete who has already stood atop the podium twice is Cedarville junior Carsyn Koch, the defending indoor 800-meter champion and most recently the USTFCCCA Midwest Region Track Athlete of the Year. She auto qualified for indoor nationals in three different events.

The NCAA DII Indoor Track & Championships will take place Thursday, March 9 and run through Saturday.

Both of Cedarville's distance medley relay units qualified for nationals and the women for their second consecutive year. The women's DMR unit from Cedarville of Koch, Olivia Esbenshade, Olivia Kundo and Lyndsey Smith, auto qualified and is scheduled to race on Friday, March 10, at 5:55 p.m. CST.

Esbenshade was the G-MAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year and will additionally run in the mile; Koch is also entered in the 800.

The men's DMR with Cedarville's Daniel Michalski, Josiah Bernard (Tim De Jong will be replacing in the event), Ethan Gatchell and Wyatt Hartman, will follow the women's race at 6:15 p.m. CST. Michalski is also running the mile; prelims are set for 4:45 p.m. CST on Thursday.

Dominating throws competition all year was Malone senior Duke Taylor. He will be competing in the weight throw that will get underway on Thursday at 4:25 p.m. CST.

Ursuline duo Janelle Perry and Nicole Yeargin are multi-event qualifiers. Perry, just a sophomore, is competing in the pentathlon and long jump while the freshman Yeargin will display her speed in the 200 and 400-meter dashes.
