G-MAC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week (Jan. 17)

INDIANAPOLIS – Alderson Broaddus freshman sprinter Todd Sekowski and Malone senior thrower Duke Taylor were named Great Midwest Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.

Taylor earned his third conference field weekly honor this year alone while Sekowski is a first-time honoree.

Sekowski’s work in the 55-meter dash at the Marietta Open was record breaking at both the conference and the institutional level. On Friday, he clocked 6.51 in the preliminaries and was better in the finals with a 6.48.

Sekowski is in now possession of first and second place in the G-MAC archives in the event, officially overtaking a 6.55 from Cedarville’s Andre Klaassen recorded in 2014.

The USTFCCCA Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) converted in his 6.48 into 6.97 for the 60-meter distance. That time would be tied for second to match Tevin Washington of Kentucky Wesleyan (2014).

Taylor assumed his dominance in the weight throw at the Northwest Ohio Invitational that was hosted by Findlay (incoming G-MAC member institution). He has three consecutive provisional marks, none better than 18.63 meters (over 61 feet) launched on his fifth attempt out of six tries.

Taylor would finish seventh in the event and continues to creep closer to the NCAA DII auto mark of 20.99m. He has broken his own record and conference best in all three events to date this season.

As of now, Taylor ranks 10th nationally in the weight throw as Ashland’s Daniel Roberts (21.47m) currently sets the pace at the top.
