CEDARVILLE, Ohio
– Cedarville University’s Doden Field House will serve as the venue for the second annual Great Midwest Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships set to be conducted Saturday.

Five G-MAC teams will be competing on the women’s side (Alderson Broaddus, Cedarville, Kentucky Wesleyan, Trevecca Nazarene, Ursuline) while four (AB, CED, KWC, TNU) will count towards scoring in men’s competitions.

The conference’s inaugural indoor track and field championship in 2015 featured Ursuline winning the first women’s title and Cedarville winning the initial men’s trophy at Kenyon College last season.

Satursday’s lineup of events will start at 10 a.m. EST and the final event of the day is tentatively scheduled to get underway at 4:15 p.m.

The awards ceremony will follow after the completion of all events.

The conference will recognize male and female track athletes of the year, field athletes of the year, freshmen of the year and coaches of the year, for the current indoor season.

An all-conference team will also be announced with first, second, third and all-freshman team members comprising the list.

The only returning individual student-athlete award winners from the 2015 G-MAC Indoor Track & Field Championships include Kentucky Wesleyan sophomore thrower Crystal Hopkins (Field Athlete of the Year) and Trevecca Nazarene junior distance runner Logan Rodgers (co-Track Athlete of the Year).

Their talents will be on display along with other familiar faces. The G-MAC has seen a substantial number of student-athletes hit provisionally qualifying marks and times this indoor season.

Cedarville’s women, now ranked 24th in the newest USTFCCCA Top 25, has been guided by automatic national qualifier Carsyn Koch (mile), a four-time selection as conference athlete of the week. Olivia Esbenshade (800m) and the Yellow Jackets’ distance medley relay team have provisionally qualified.

Hopkins has the season’s top distances in the shot put and weight throw and Ursuline’s freshman Janelle Perry has the best mark in the long jump. Both are provisional qualifiers.

Provisional qualifiers on the men’s side including Rodgers (5K), three-time G-MAC Athlete of the Week Daniel Michalski of Cedarville, Cedarville’s Calvin Pitney (pole vault) and the Yellow Jackets’ distance medley relay team.

The G-MAC will launch its new Snapchat account (username ‘greatmidwestac’) as an additional way to capture some of the moments throughout the day. Additional coverage through the G-MAC’s existing Twitter and Instagram accounts (both usernames ‘greatmidwestac’) will also be published frequently.

General admission for the event on Saturday, Feb. 27, is $6. Seniors and youth (ages 6-18) are admitted for $3 and students from any college get in free with a valid ID.
