INDIANAPOLIS – Kentucky Wesleyan sophomore sprinter James Glenn and Malone senior thrower Duke Taylor were named the first Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for the new season on Monday.
Glenn reset the 200-meter dash record and nearly set a new standard in the 400-meter distance as the Panthers opened up the indoor season by debuting at the UIndy Season Opener on Saturday.
Glenn sprinted to a time of 22.21 (adjusted time on 200-meter track) to place second out of 44. He edged out the previous record of 22.33 set by Cedarville senior Andre Klaassen back in Februrary of 2016.
In the 400-meter dash, Glenn was just .01 of a second away from matching Josiah Bernard (Cedarville) and his 50.20 in 2015. Glenn clocked a 50.21 in his first attempt of the year and was second out of 29 total competitors.
Taylor and the Pioneers opened their indoor season on Friday at the Youngstown State Icebreaker.
In his first meet of the year and G-MAC debut, Taylor set a new conference record in the weight throw with a heave of 17.18 meters. He shattered the previous top distance of 15.47 meters held by Cedarville’s Lane Hluch.
