G-MAC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week (Dec. 12)

12.12.16

INDIANAPOLIS – Malone seniors Lorne Strausbaugh and Duke Taylor both earned Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Track & Field Athlete of the Week status following Monday’s announcement.

Strausbaugh and Taylor helped lead the Pioneers in their second event of the indoor season at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala on Friday.

Both cemented their status in the all-time G-MAC top performances list for the indoor season with impressive showings in the 3K and the weight throw, respectively.

This is Taylor’s second straight G-MAC Field Athlete of the Week honor.

Taylor reset his own conference record in the weight throw with a distance of 18.13 meters, more than one full meter from his previous season best of 17.18 (the previous G-MAC Record) at the Youngstown State Icebreaker.

Taylor would place ninth in the event, respectively, while recording another provisional mark for the NCAA Championships.

Strausbaugh registered the sixth-best 3K time in conference history with a time of 8:43.29. He finished second overall in the event and ran neck-and-neck with teammate Scott Whitaker.

Strausbaugh was less than eight seconds away from the top 3K time recorded by Cedarville’s Matt Brooker back in 2014. Whitaker’s time also ranks seventh in 3K conference history.
