CEDARVILLE, Ohio (courtesy of @CUjackets) - Junior pole vaulter James Blackwell earned a spot on the USTFCCCA Division II Men's Indoor Track & Field All-Region Team for the second straight year. He also returns to the NCAA Division II Indoor Championship along with senior 5K specialist, and the G-MAC 2012 and 2013 Cross Country champion, Matt Brooker.
Blackwell, a native of Clare, Mich., is one of 536 athletes from across the country to be named a men's all-region honoree. The list includes the top five individuals in each event from each region.
Blackwell had the #2 mark among Midwest Region schools this winter. He cleared 4.92 meters (16-1.75) at the Indiana University Hoosier Hills on Feb. 14.
The NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships will be March 14-15 at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C. It's the second year in a row for Blackwell to qualify. He placed 12th in the heptathlon last year.
Blackwell has the #12 pole vault mark in the country heading into this year's championship. There are 17 total competitors.
Brooker, a senior from Spring Mills, Pa., has the 17th-fastest time in the 5,000 meters. He was clocked in 14:27.18 on Grand Valley State's oversized track on Feb. 14 which when converted to match a flat 200 meter track ends up being 14:36.46.
This will be Brooker's first trip to the NCAA Indoor. He's guided the Yellow Jacket cross country team to the 2012 and 2013 NCAA Championships where he was an All-American this past fall after placing 28th in the nation.
