Matt Brooker has been named G-MAC Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week following his record breaking performance in the 5,000 meter run at the Penn State National Invitational in University Park, Pennsylvania.

Brooker, competing against 22 runners, was the only NCAA Division II runner in the race and the only runner not from NCAA Division I to finish in the top eight. He finished in a school-record time of 14:36.27 and finished in fourth place. His time was just over half a second faster than the previous record at Cedarville, established back in 2002 by Sergio Reyes.

The 2012 and 2013 Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Year and G-MAC Champion, qualified provisionally with his performance as the NCAA DII Provisional time is 14:56.59 in his first indoor race of the season.

Women’s Track and Field: Athlete of the Week

Bea Indurain
Ursuline College (@UrsulineArrows)
Sophomore - All-Around
Vilassar de Mar, Spain - Joaquim Blume High School

Bea Indurain has been named the Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this season, and is the third week that an Ursuline runner has earned the honor this season. At the SPIRE Midwest Indoor Track and Field Open in Geneva, Ohio, Indurain competed and performed at a high level in three different events.

In the 60-meter hurdles, Indurain finished seventh overall with a time of 9.21 seconds. In the 60-meter dash, she recorded a time of 8.22 seconds, but didn’t advance into the finals of the event, placing 18th. In the 4x400-meter relay, she helped guide the team to a 13th place finish with a time of 4:20.54.

Showing her all around talents, Indurain competed in the long jump and placed ninth with a distance of 5.20 meters or 17’- 0.75”. The distance recorded easily ranks as the G-MAC’s top performance in 2014, topping the distance that Beth Jones of Cedarville posted (4.98-meters) in December.

Indurain’s time in the 60-meter dash, despite not making the finals of the event, was the second best time in the conference this season. Also ranking second on the season in the G-MAC, her performance in the 60-meter hurdles placed her among the conference best.
