Ashland University Director of Athletics Al King has announced the hire of Ted Chester as the Eagles' head women's golf coach.

"We're excited to welcome Ted to Ashland University and the athletic department," King said. "We're also thankful that this head coaching position is now full-time, and I can't thank President Peede (AU President Jon Parrish Peede) enough for making that a reality. That's going to help the women's golf program in a number of ways.

"Ted comes to Ashland with an abundance of energy and ideas. The people we talked to during the selection process raved about his work ethic, professionalism and ability to communicate. I think our team is going to enjoy what lies ahead, it's a new chapter and hopefully a continuation of the success, academically and athletically, this team has enjoyed."

Said Chester, "I feel very fortunate. Between the young ladies who have been here the last couple years and the incoming freshmen, it's a really exciting opportunity to be a part of the program and be a part of Ashland."

Chester comes to Ashland following a four-year stint as a varsity girls golf coach at Medina Highland High School, helping a program which has made four consecutive Ohio Division I state tournaments – fifth place in 2021, and fourth place each year from 2022-24.

He also has coaching experience in basketball with summer teams and boys and girls varsity, junior varsity and middle school squads.

Chester is a 1997 graduate of Kent State University.

In 2024-25, Ashland women's golf earned a spot in the NCAA Division II postseason for a second straight year, and placed third at the 2025 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championships.

"That is the expectation," Chester said of NCAA postseason appearances. "Not only get to the championship, but, hopefully, one day, win the championship. I want all the girls to have a championship mindset.

"Both Findlay and Tiffin are obviously very good, but again, the goal would be to try to win that (the conference). That would be the first goal."
