OWENSBORO, Ky. — The No. 2 seed Northwood University Timberwolves captured the 2026 Great Midwest Men's Tennis Championship on Saturday, outlasting top-seeded and previously undefeated Tiffin University in a dramatic 4-3 finale at Centre Court. With the victory, Northwood secured the conference title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Midwest Regional tournament.

With the championship on the line and the teams deadlocked at three points apiece, all eyes turned to the No. 2 singles court. Northwood's Andrey Pikulin found himself in a three-set marathon against Tiffin’s Martin Driesner. After dropping the opening set, Pikulin battled back to win a second-set tiebreak before securing the championship-clinching point in the decisive final set with a thrilling 3-6, 7-6(2), 6-4 victory.

The back-and-forth championship dual began with Northwood capturing a fiercely contested doubles point to set the tone. Finn Buschmaas and Pikulin struck first with a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles. Moments later, the No. 1 pair of Marc Ferrando Farras and Juan Perez Garcia clinched the point with a 7-6(4) tiebreak win over Tiffin’s Driesner and Jose Portillo.

Tiffin fought back in singles action, quickly taking a 2-1 overall lead as Harry Senior and Lorenzo Perucchini won in straight sets at No. 6 and No. 4 singles, respectively. Northwood fired back, tying the match 2-2 when Perez Garcia swept Tiffin's Erwan Colin (6-0, 6-4) at the No. 5 spot. Ferrando Farras pushed Northwood back into the lead at 3-2 by besting Portillo 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. However, Tiffin's Romain Marionneau managed to level the overall score at 3-3 with a hard-fought 7-5, 7-5 win over Sergio Lopez Guillen at No. 1, setting the stage for Pikulin's heroics.

The Timberwolves’ path to Saturday's championship climax included a hard-fought 4-2 victory over the No. 3 seed University of Findlay Oilers in Friday's semifinals. The dual started with Findlay surging early to capture the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead. Facing an early deficit, Northwood absolutely dominated in singles play, capturing four matches to clinch the dual.

Sergio Lopez Guillen delivered the clinching blow at No. 1 singles for Northwood in the semifinals, putting away Findlay's Clement Andrieu in straight sets (6-4, 6-1). Ferrando Farras made quick work of Runa Kagoshima at No. 3, winning decisively (6-1, 6-1). Over at the No. 4 spot, AJ Duggan dispatched Matthis Veniard (6-3, 6-3), while Perez Garcia rolled past Aleksander Ivancevic in straight sets (6-0, 6-3) at No. 5. Findlay’s lone singles point came from Soh Kuyama at No. 2, but it wasn't enough to halt the Timberwolves' momentum heading into the finals.
