Luke Metzger Qualifies for 125th U.S. Amateur

Columbus, Ohio- On Wednesday, July 30, University of Findlay men's golfer Luke Metzger finished tied for fifth in a qualifying event that grants him a spot in the 2025 United States Amateur which will be held August 11-17 in at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, California.

In the qualifier, which was held at Ohio State University Golf Club's Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio, Metzger, shot 68 (-3), tying for the fifth spot in the field. The top eleven finishers earned spots in next month's event. Findlay's upcoming senior made three six birdies to close out his round at three-under.

Metzger will be competing in a field of 312 players all vying for the title in the world's biggest amateur event which will be taking place at the renowned Olympic Club. The tournament will utilize both the Lake Course and Ocean Course.

The U.S. Amateur Champion comes with a long list of benefits including exemptions to the next ten U.S. Amateur Tournaments, an exemption to the 2026 U.S. Open, and an exemption into the 2026 Open Championship. Past champions include recent notables such as Bryson DeChambeau (2015), Matthew Fitzpatrick (2013), and Tiger Woods (1994, 1995, 1996).

The event is a marathon that begins on August 11tj and 12th with 18 holes of stroke play on each day. From there, the top 64 players then begin a match play tournament that spans five days and potentially yields 126 holes over the final five days.
