CLEVELAND- With half of its membership represented, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference had a strong showing in the Division II LEARFIELD Director’s Cup final fall standings, released Thursday morning.
The LEARFIELD Director’s Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of College Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in the NCAA Championships.
Cedarville is the top-ranked G-MAC member institution with a standing of No. 40 in Division II. The Yellow Jackets had three programs advance to NCAA Championship competition after completing the conference championship. During the 2023 fall season, Cedarville collected 117.50 points. The women’s cross country team allocated the most points with a 10
th place finish at the national meet. The women’s soccer team earned an at-large bid to the Midwest Regional to add 50 points to the total.
A trio of Great Midwest institutions cracked the top 100 with Tiffin at No. 48, Ashland at No. 77, and Lake Erie at No. 91. The Dragons accumulated 103 points this fall from both football and men’s soccer, who earned the No. 1 seed in their respective regions.
Ashland maintained a top 100 status with 64 points as the Eagles advanced to the Midwest Regional championship final before falling to Grand Valley State.
Next is Lake Erie as the Storm celebrated an at-large berth to the NCAA Super Region 3 in men’s soccer. The Storm are ranked tied for No. 91 with 50 points.
Walsh, Hillsdale, and Northwood round out teams from the league in the final standings. The Cavaliers traveled the men’s cross country to the national meet, where they finished 29
th overall. Walsh is ranked 116
th in the standings with a total of 45 points.
Hillsdale earned 25 points in volleyball after getting an automatic qualifying bid following their seventh straight Great Midwest title.
The Timberwolves from Northwood are crowded in a field at a tie for 120
th. Northwood women’s soccer won their first G-MAC title and an automatic qualifying bid to the national tournament.
Updated standings will be published at the conclusion of the winter season on April 18
th. The winner of the LEARFIELD Director’s Cup will be announced on June 11, following all spring championships.
