INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Midwest Athletic Conference announced promotions for two conference office staff members on Monday.
Rick Tice has been promoted to Associate Commissioner while Katie Gilhooly has been named Director of Digital Media and Communications.
“We are excited to see Rick and Katie step into these roles as they have excelled in providing service to the membership and support to fellow staff members in their time with the Great Midwest,” said Commissioner Tom Daeger.
Rick Tice, Associate Commissioner
Tice has been named Associate Commissioner after spending his first two years with the Great Midwest as Assistant Commissioner.
“Rick has and will continue to serve our 26 league championship events, while taking a larger role in committee service within the Conference. In his time with the Great Midwest, Rick has kept the experience of the student-athletes at our events at the forefront of his priorities and it has greatly benefited the league. We are looking forward to seeing him continue to lead in this space.”
Under his new title, Tice will continue to provide direct oversight to the conference’s 26 championship sport offerings while also guiding the awards program and identifying areas in external relations, specifically sponsorship development, to assist in the league’s growth.
Tice came to the conference office in 2020 from Great Midwest member Malone University where he served as the head women’s basketball coach until 2018. While at Malone, he also took on the role of Assistant Athletic Director serving in that position until his departure in 2019.
Katie Gilhooly, Director of Digital Media and Communications
Gilhooly assumes the role of Director of Digital Media and Communications after serving as Operations and Media Coordinator since October.
“Katie brought a strong background in digital media to the Great Midwest when she joined our office staff in 2021 and has shown a commitment to providing new dynamic content and improving effiencies in our operations. She has proven to be a tremendous addition to the conference office staff and I am excited to see where she takes our digital media and communication initiatives.”
Gilhooly will now lead the communications efforts within the conference and its 13 members. While she will now oversee a broad range of Great Midwest communication strategies, the focus of this new role will primarily be in the digital space where she will drive the creation and implementation of all media strategies including developing multi-platform media plans, overseeing digital marketing efforts, and planning content. In her new role, Gilhooly will continue to work with the Great Midwest Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Gilhooly came to the conference office in 2021 after an extensive career in broadcast journalism spending several years as a sports reporter in various cities across the country.
