A pair of All-American athletes have earned Great Midwest Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors for the 2021-22 year. Tim Stollings of Findlay swimming & diving is this year's male scholar-athlete of the year while track & field athlete Rachel Sweeney-Bredeson of Cedarville is the female recipient.
Stollings, a native of Pritchard, West Virginia who was the 100 fly national champion in 2021 and runner-up in 2022, owns a 3.95 GPA in business after three years of study at Findlay. He's been the Great Midwest Swimmer of the Year for three straight years and earned All-American honors 10 times in his career (including six in 2022). Stollings has helped the Oilers to five straight conference titles and led the team to place ninth in the nation this year.
Sweeney-Bredeson is a native of Xenia, Ohio, and owns a perfect 4.0 GPA in her pharmacy studies at CU as both an undergrad and graduate student. Her academic honors include Great Midwest Elite 25 Awards for both indoor and outdoor track & field and also an NCAA Elite 90 winner for having the top GPA at the national meet. She placed sixth in the nation in the steeplechase this year to earn All-American honors after placing third at the Great Midwest championships. The team captain for Cedarville in both cross country and track & field, Sweeney-Bredeson is also president of the Student National Pharmacist Association and chair of the Student College of Clinical Pharmacy Central Nervous System PRN.
