INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Midwest Athletes of the Week for February 7, 2022, are based on student-athlete performance from January 31, 2022 – February 6, 2022.
Men’s Basketball
Brandon Haraway - Ashland / Jr. / Guard / Norwalk, Ohio (Norwalk)
Haraway stuffed the stat sheet during a unique week, playing conference foe Tiffin in back-to-back contests. Over two games, the junior averaged 31 points, eight rebounds and three assists per game. Haraway finished the weekend shooting 69.7% from the field on six of nine shooting from three-point land. The Eagles split the two-game slate with the Dragons losing in overtime to open the weekend. During that contest, Haraway recorded a career-high 41 points to go along with 10 rebounds.
Women’s Basketball
Bridget Landin – Findlay / Sr. / Forward / Ottoville, Ohio (Ottoville)
Findlay secured wins over Cedarville and Hillsdale after losing five of six heading into the weekend. Landin played a large part in that success averaging 19 points, 9.5 rebounds, and three assists per game. The senior finished the weekend shooting 53% from the field. The Ottoville, Ohio native also pitched in on the defensive effort averaging one steal, and 1.5 blocks over the two wins this weekend.
Men’s Indoor Track & Field
Hunter Moore – Walsh / Sr. / Distance / Westerville, Ohio (Olentangy Orange)
Moore competed in this weekend’s inaugural Jud Logan Light Giver Open at Ashland University. In the 3,000-meter run, the senior stopped the clock in 8:17.25, to win the event. With that time, Moore now holds the third fastest time in Great Midwest history while also setting a new school record at Walsh. The time also earned Moore an NCAA Division II provisional mark.
Jacob Ott – Walsh / Sr. / Throws / Chillicothe, Ohio (Paint Valley)
Ott took first place in the shot put at this weekend’s Jud Logan Open. His throw of 17.48m, was good enough for a provisional mark as well as setting a new school record. That throw ranks him 12th in the nation in the shot put event. Along with that win, Ott also earned a provisional mark in the weight throw (19.16m) while taking fourth in the event overall.
Women’s Indoor Track & Field
Liz Wamsley – Hillsdale / Fr. / Distance / St. Louis, Missouri
Wamsley took fourth place in her first 3,000-meter race of her career at this weekend’s Jud Logan Open. The freshman finished with a time of 9:44.87, more than ten seconds under the provisional qualifying mark. That time is ranked 21st in Division II this season. It also ranks as the fastest time in the conference this year and the tenth fastest time in Great Midwest Conference history.
Nikita Maines – Hillsdale / Jr. / Throws / Centralia, Illinois (Centralia)
Maines took the top spot in the weight throw event at the Jud Logan Open this weekend. Her throw of 18.99 meters sets a new provisional mark as well as a new personal best for the thrower. That mark is the third best throw in the conference this year and is tied for the 11
th-best in the nation in Division II. Maines also took third in the shot-put event with a throw of 14.37 meters, another NCAA Division II provisional mark.
Men’s Tennis
Tyler Conrad – Hillsdale / Jr. / Midland, Michigan (Dow)
Conrad provided a strong start for the Chargers in the opening weekend of the spring season. The junior went a perfect 3-0 on the week, winning both his No. 3 singles matches against Lawrence Tech (7-5, 6-1) and Lewis (6-3, 6-3). Conrad also grabbed a win with partner Jonathan Degtyaryov at No. 2 doubles over Lawrence Tech.
Women’s Tennis
Anaelle Lepinay – Tiffin / Fr. / Saint Barthelemy Anjou, France (Joachim du bellay)
Lepinay grabbed four victories on the court this weekend. Those four wins came in singles victories against Northwood (2-6, 7-6, 6-2) and Davenport (6-1, 6-1). Lepinay showed grit in a comeback win over Northwood falling down 2-6, before coming back to win the match. The freshman also grabbed doubles wins at Northwood (6-2) and Davenport (6-3).
Wrestling
Tyler Swiderski – Lake Erie / Fr. / 157 LB / Dundee, Michigan (Dundee)
Swiderski helped lead the Storm to an impressive dual win over the weekend against Davenport. The freshman recorded a pin in 2:12, at 157 pounds. Swiderski’s pin was one of three on the day helping Lake Erie to a decisive 45-0 over the Panthers.
