Great Midwest Athletes of the Week (Feb. 21)

INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Midwest Athletes of the Week for February 21, 2022, are based on student-athlete performance from February 14, 2022 – February 20, 2022.
 
Baseball
Jordan Jackson – Trevecca Nazarene / Sr. / Outfield / Murfreesboro, Tennessee
Jordan helped the Trojans to a 4-0, weekend with a win over the University of Alabama-Huntsville followed by three wins over Lewis. Over four games, the senior went 8-of-16 at the dish with two doubles, four RBI, and three runs to go along with .625% slugging. The outfielder added four walks and successfully stole four bases on four attempts.
 
Tanner Gillis – Cedarville / Sr. / Pitcher / Buffalo, New York
Gillis grabbed a complete game win in Saturday’s doubleheader over Lincoln Memorial. The senior struck out six batters on two walks in seven innings pitched. The Buffalo native allowed  just one earned run on five hits in the outing. The Yellowjackets took a 2-1 lead in the first inning before Gillis helped hold off the Railsplitters for his first career victory.
 
Men’s Basketball
Garrison Keeslar – Walsh / So. / Guard / Green, Ohio
The Cavaliers ended the week 3-0, picking up a key victory over Ashland to move into first place in the Great Midwest standings. Keeslar contributed by averaging a double-double through those three contests with 18 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. The sophomore knocked down 17-of-43 attempts from the field for a .395% field-goal percentage. Kesslar also added 3.5 assists and 2.7 steals per game.
 
Women’s Basketball
Mayci Sales – Walsh / Grad / Forward / Massillon, Ohio
Sales played a pivotal role during an important week for Walsh helping the Cavaliers hand No. 2 Ashland its first conference loss of the season. Over two wins, the forward averaged 21 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. In her fifth year, Sales shot .704% from field, making 19-of-27 attempts to go along with 2.5 assists per game.
 
Men’s Bowling
Chase Barstow – Walsh / Fr. / Louisville, Ohio
Barstow made his mark in history winning the Cavaliers first-ever home bowling tournament. The freshman knocked down 881 pins over four games (226-226-204-225). That performance led Barstow to a 220.3 average for the tournament.
 
Men’s Indoor Track & Field
Chandler Wilhelm – Walsh / Jr. / Sprints / Heath, Ohio
Wilhelm competed at both the Al Campbell Invitational and the Jud Logan Tune-Up. The junior finished in second place in the mile crossing the finish line in 4:12.97. His time is the tenth best in Great Midwest history. Wilhelm also set a new school record at Walsh with his performance.
 
Collin Jasin – Tiffin / Sr. / Pole Vault / Dayton, Ohio
Jasin set a new season-high in the pole-vault clearing 5.10 meters. Jasin’s performance was also good enough for an NCAA Division II provisional mark. The senior now holds the fifth best mark in Division II this season.
 
Women’s Indoor Track & Field
Reese Dragovich – Hillsdale / Fr. / Mid-distance / Castle Rock, Colorado
Dragovich took first place in the 800-meter run at the Hillsdale Tune-Up. Her time of 2:16.50 is a provisional qualifying time and a new personal record for the freshman. When adjusted for track width, her time is the second-best in the Great Midwest this season. 
 
Katie Sayles – Hillsdale / Fr. / Throws / Napoleon, Michigan
Sayles finished in first place in the weight throw at the Hillsdale Tune-Up this weekend with a throw of 20.07 meters. That mark smashes the conference record set earlier this season by Ashland’s Carrol Pauley. The throw also gives Sayles the second-best throw in Division II this season as well as sets a new school record at Hillsdale.
 
Men’s Lacrosse
McGarity Harper – Seton Hill / Grad / Attack / Ijamsville, Maryland
For the second time in as many weeks, Harper is named Great Midwest Athlete of the Week. Harper added four more goals to his season total in the Griffins, 12-5, win over Chestnut Hill. His ten goals and six assists make him the league-leader in points per game this season. The attack also added two assists and two ground balls in the win.
 
Josh Miller – Seton Hill / Sr. / Goalkeeper / Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania  
Miller helped Seton Hill to a win over Chestnut Hill over the weekend. Miller recorded 11 saves and allowing just five goals in the win. Miller has 29 saves so far this season. The goalkeeper also added one ground ball in his outing over the weekend.
 
Softball
Malone Thrift – Trevecca Nazarene / So. / Infield / Cross Plains, Tennessee
Trevecca went 3-2, over five games this weekend with wins over Southern Indiana, McKendree, and Rockhurst. Thrift hit .455% over the five-game stand. The sophomore added three runs, four RBI, and two doubles for a .571% on-base percentage. Thrift also found her way on base with one walk, and two HBP.
 
Alex Behnke – Trevecca Nazarene / Jr. / Pitcher / Old Hickory, Tennessee
Behnke grabbed two wins this weekend, both coming in relief, at the Music City Invitational. In the Trojans win over Rockhurst, the junior pitched three innings while only allowing two runs on four hits and striking out two. Behnke then grabbed her second win of the day tossing the 1.2 innings in relief striking out one to help hold-off McKendree, 10-9.
 
Men’s Tennis
Matthew Telford – Tiffin / Jr. / Durham, United Kingdom
Telford contributed four total wins this weekend, two singles wins and two doubles wins. The junior won 9-8 (7-4) against Ohio Wesleyan in doubles. Against Carnegie Mellon, Telford posted a 6-1, 6-1 win in singles along with 6-3 doubles win, and won a 6-0, 6-4 singles match against Illinois-Springfield. He also added a 6-3 win against the Prairie Stars in doubles.
 
Women’s Tennis
Jessica Peace – Tiffin / Fr. / Bristol, United Kingdom
Peace went 2-0, in singles play beating Illinois-Springfield (6-4, 6-4) for her third clinching victory of the season and Ohio Wesleyan (6-3, 6-3). The freshman also picked up and win against OWU in doubles, 8-6.
