Findlay, Hillsdale, Trevecca Under Consideration in Midwest Region

INDIANAPOLIS - The first NCAA DII Men’s Golf Regional Rankings were released last week with Findlay, Hillsdale and Trevecca all ranked in the Midwest Region. 

This set of rankings included all matches through April 2 and listed eleven teams in each of the eight regions in no particular order. In the Midwest Region, made up of the Great Midwest, along with the GLIAC and GLVC, Findlay, Hillsdale and Trevecca were among the eleven teams being considered. 

Findlay started the spring season at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate, taking fifth place among a mostly Division I field. The Oilers then competed at the Lindenwood Invitational, where they placed second only behind Central Missouri, who is ranked in the central region, while beating out regionally ranked Maryville. The Oilers hosted the Findlay Spring Invite at the end of March, finishing third behind regionally ranked opponents UIndy and Grand Valley. 

The team shot a low round score of 248 twice this spring. Freshman Donnie Professori has been Findlay’s top finisher at both the Lindenwood and Findlay Invitationals. Professori and Senior Brock Kehres tied for seventh with a 54-hole score of 213 at the Lindenwood Invitational. Professori once again finished tied for seventh with a three-round score of 215 at the Findlay Spring Invite. Senior Luke Kelly was the Oilers’ top finisher at the Bobby Nicols Intercollegiate with a 54-hole score of 217. 

Hillsdale played at the Saint Leo Invitational in February where the Chargers finished 13th with a 54-hole score of 872 (+8) among a field filled with teams ranked in the south region. They then competed in the Las Vegas Desert Classic, tying for 8th with a three-round score of 885. The Chargers finished fourth among 21 teams at the SVSU Spring Invitational. 

Hillsdale shot a team low round score of 285 at the Las Vegas Desert Classic. Seniors Ryan Zetwick and George Roberts have consistently been the top top finishers for the Chargers this spring. 

Trevecca kicked off the spring season with a win at the Mississippi College Spring Invite with a 36-hole score of 572 (-4). The Trojans then finished first at the Music City Invitational among the 16-team field, finishing with a two round score of 569. Individually, senior Blain Turner has been terrific winning the Mississippi Invite with a 36-hole score of 134 (-10) and finishing second at the Music City Invite with a two-round score of 136.

The Trojans placed second at the SVSU Spring Invite where Turner once again placed first among the 116 players. Trevecca tied for fourth at the Findlay Spring Invite to round out the spring schedule prior to heading to the conference championship. 

The Great Midwest men’s golf championship will be held at the Big Blue Course in Lexington, Kentucky on April 19 and 20.
