INDIANAPOLIS – In the final tune-up before the postseason, both programs from NCAA regionally ranked Findlay claimed Great Midwest Athletic Conference Golf Athletes of the Week as announced on Thursday.
 
Teams are making their way down to Lexington, Ky., for the Great Midwest Championships. The women’s tournament will start on Friday morning and the men’s tournament, separate, will tee off on Monday morning. Both tournaments are 54-hole format from the Big Blue Course at the University Club of Kentucky.
 
Men’s Athlete of the Week

By bringing home medalist honors at the Ken Patridge Invitational at Purgatory in Noblesville, Ind., Grzegorczyk secured his second conference athlete of the week award of 2020-21.
 
His latest effort also cemented his status as a Top-5 scorer in the conference going into the championship event next week. The talented junior was also medalist at the Kyle Ryman Memorial Invitational in the fall.
 
Grzegorczyk finished even par with a 216 (76-74-66) at the event hosted by UIndy, which invites only the Midwest Region’s top programs. The Oilers finished third as a team with a 54-hole total of 890 (+26) and a best round of 293.
 
It was the fourth time this season a player recorded a 6-under par 66 as he joined Malone’s Connor Curry and Trevecca Nazarene’s Blain Turner (twice). He has joined teammate Justin Atkinson (72.71) among the league’s top 5 scorers.
 
Grzegorczyk’s scoring average was lowered to 73.06 going into the postseason. He has played in six of Findlay’s seven events and has counted 18 rounds to his season stats.

Schmitmeyer and the Oilers are ranked second in the East Region going into the conference tournament meet as they finished prep with a runner-up team performance at the Cav Classic in Canton.
 
The junior carved out her second individual win of the 2020-21 campaign with a medalist honors and a tournament total of 142 (70-72).
 
The 70 (-2) was Schmitmeyer’s second-best scoring round of the season after posting an even par 72 at the Tiffin Invitational in the fall.
 
Schmitmeyer now has 6 top-10 finishes this season and a pair of medalist victories, also including the Tiffin Invitational.
 
Schmitmeyer is the current league leader in scoring average going into Lexington with a 75.67 through 18 rounds counted.
