INDIANAPOLIS – Findlay had a pair of individual finishes near the top of the standings in their tournaments to sweep Great Midwest Athletic Conference Golf Athletes of the Week honors on Thursday.
 
Men’s Athlete of the Week
Justin Atkinson
Findlay
Sophomore
Brookfield, OH (Brookfield HS)
 
Atkinson was the top performer at the Kyle Ryman Memorial Invitational hosted by Tiffin, finishing all three rounds under par at Mohawk Country Club.
 
The Oilers would finish fourth as a team as the sophomore Atkinson fired a tournament score of 8-under par 208 (70-70-68) to hold off Hillsdale’s Oscar Darlington and his 209 for medalist honors. Atkinson also tied the Findlay program's 54-hole tournament record. 
 
Atkinson went into the tournament tied for sixth in the conference in scoring average. His most recent effort improved his scoring for the season from 72.38 to 71.54.
 
Atkinson has a pair of top five performances in the fall already following a fifth place showing at the Arendsen Invitational back on Sep. 5-6. Eight of his 11 rounds have been even par or better this year.
 
Women’s Athlete of the Week

Sabina, OH (Clinton-Massie HS)
 
Woods and the Oilers were host of the William Beall Fall Classic earlier this week at the Findlay Country Club with a strong field of programs drawn in from the Midwest Region.
 
The Oilers, currently ranked ninth in the WGCA national poll, were just two strokes shy of the team title against No. 5 ranked Barry.
 
Woods was third overall after posting a strong three-round score of 220 (71-71-78). Four Oilers were in the top 10 with Jill Schmitmeyer and Kristina Kniesly sharing fifth and Mary Kelly Mulcahy in a tie for ninth.
 
Woods now has a pair of top-10 finishes this fall while her scoring average improved to 76.50 from 77.86.
