INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Midwest Athletic Conference is pleased to announce the addition of Katie Gilhooly to the office staff as Operations & Media Coordinator.
Gilhooly will be responsible for working in media relations for the 23 conference championship sports as well as assisting with the league’s social media efforts as well as the conceptualization of new media plans to help grow the conference’s digital media presence. She will also play a primary role in the conference office’s day-to-day operations including the handling of referee payments and serving as the primary contact for the Great Midwest Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
“We are excited to welcome Katie to our team,” said Great Midwest Commissioner Tom Daeger. “She brings great experience in electronic media and a passion for collegiate sports. We look forward to her contributions with the Great Midwest.”
Gilhooly comes to the Great Midwest after an extensive career in broadcast journalism. During that time, she served in various roles throughout newsrooms across the country primarily as a Sports Anchor and Reporter making stops in Kirksville, Mo., and Birmingham, Ala. Most recently, Gilhooly spent nearly three years in Lima covering local sports in northwest Ohio where she was able to make her first acquaintance with the league while covering athletics at the University of Findlay.
“I am excited for the opportunity to join the league office and continue serving sports communities across the Midwest,” said Gilhooly. “I have had the pleasure of working with Division II institutions, including the Great Midwest throughout my career in sports journalism, and have always admired its commitment to its student-athletes,” said Gilhooly. “I can’t thank Tom (Daeger) and the rest of the conference enough for giving me the chance to continue to give back to the world of sports.”
Gilhooly grew up in Decatur, Ala., and attended The University of Alabama where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Information Sciences. While in college, she spent a semester as a Production Operations intern at ESPN in Bristol, Conn.
