INDIANAPOLIS – Cedarville and Findlay collected the first selection of Great Midwest Athletic Conference Golf Athletes of the Week awards as announced on Tuesday afternoon.

The 2020-21 season teed off for several Great Midwest programs. Malone captured the team title at the Malone-Glenmoor Invitational with Cedarville and Walsh also participating in the first men’s event.

The Findlay women were the runner-up in the tough UIndy Fall Invitational while Malone was also in the field.

Cody Cogdill
Cedarville
Junior
Pataskala, OH (Watkins Memorial HS)

After leading the Yellow Jackets in scoring average in a shortened 2019-20 campaign, Cogdill tied for medalist honors at the Malone-Glenmoor Invitational to start his junior season on a high note.

The junior had a 76.38 scoring average through six events last year while recording one top-10 finish.

Cogdill matched his career best round twice in his season-opening effort, posting rounds of 71 (-1) in the first and third rounds.

Cogdill finished with a 54-hole tournament score of 218 at Glenmoor CC in Canton and tied Gannon’s Connor Bennink for top honors at the end of regulation to force a playoff.

His 218 would tie the Cedarville program’s fourth-best score in school history and the Yellow Jackets went on to finish fourth as a team in the standings. He currently leads the conference in scoring average with a 72.7 per-18.

Cedarville will be back on the links next Monday at the Findlay Fall Invitational for a two-day tournament.

Women’s Athlete of the Week
Meredith Wipper
Findlay
Senior
Hilton Head, S.C. (Hilton Head HS)

The senior standout Wipper started off her final season with the Oilers with a stellar performance at the UIndy Fall Invitational earlier this week.

Wipper shot a even-par 72 in the opening round and followed it up with two rounds of 75 (+3) for a score of 222 to finish fourth individually in the tournament.

Findlay finished with a three-round score of 904 (298-300-306) to take second place behind tourney host UIndy. Malone also competed, finishing sixth among the 10-team field.

This marks Wipper’s fifth time earning conference athlete of the week honors, as she did twice during both the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons. Wipper is a two-time all-conference selection and was named tournament medalist in 2019.

Wipper finished the abbreviated spring season of 2020 with a 74.5 average through 11 counted rounds.

The Oilers will host the annual William Beall Fall Classic on Oct. 5-6 at the Findlay Country Club.
