Findlay Second in First Midwest Region Rankings

2.12.20

INDIANAPOLIS – Armed with a national ranking of No. 17 and No. 2 seeding in the Midwest Region, Findlay is in the upper echelon of Division II men’s golf programs going into the spring portion of the season.

The Oilers played in six events during the fall, recording three event victories and a trio of runner-up team performances.

Findlay, coached by Dominic Guarnieri, goes into the latter half of 2019-20 as the conference team leader in scoring average (289.0) per 18 holes and own the top four team rounds of the season so far.

All-conference performer Luke Kelly is one of three golfers from the Great Midwest to have a 66 (-6) in the current season along with Ohio Dominican’s Robert Holden and Tiffin’s David Siegel.

Kelly also paces the league in individual scoring average at 71.67 per round, recording four top-five finishes in six attempts. It’s a razor-thin margin separated the Findlay standout and Trevecca Nazarene’s Ryan Rozic, less than a hundredth of a stroke.

The conference single-season scoring average record was set last year by Trevecca Nazarene’s Blain Turner, now a junior, with an average of 71.83.

Findlay is also on pace to potentially break the conference team scoring average record, also held by TNU currently at 291.74 (2018-19).

Many Oilers have contributed to the team’s success this far with Caleb Westfall, Sam Griffith, Hunter Foltz and Parker Haynes, all scoring in the top 10 among the Great Midwest’s best so far.

The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) had Findlay nationally ranked at No. 22 to finish out the fall season.

Findlay will tee it up next on March 14 at the Saginaw Valley State Spring Invite in Georgetown, Ky.
