Golf Athletes of the Week (Nov. 3)

11.3.20

INDIANAPOLIS – Trevecca Nazarene closed out the league’s composite fall schedule with both selections of Great Midwest Athletic Conference Golf Athletes of the Week as announced on Tuesday.

Men’s Athlete of the Week
Ryan Rozic
Trevecca Nazarene
Senior
Melbourne, FL (Viera HS/Eastern Florida State)

Rozic was the top finisher at the Full Moon Invitational hosted by Montevallo as he locked in an individual victory by one stroke.

The senior helped the Trojans finish in third as a team with rounds of 70 (-1) and 69 (-2) on the par-71 course at Timberline. His two-round score of 139 beat out a 140 by Montevallo’s Landon Wockenfuss.

Rozic went into the event already leading the Trojans in scoring average (72.38) and he has now been even par or better in seven of his 10 rounds this fall.

Rozic recorded his third top-10 finish of 2020-21, tying for second just last week with teammate Benjamin Ramos, who also came to TNU by way of Eastern Florida State as a transfer. Ramos was the previous Great Midwest Men’s Golf Athlete of the Week.

Through four full events, Rozic’s scoring average now is at 71.80, second in the conference going into the spring only behind Findlay’s Sam Griffith.

This is his fourth career conference athlete of the week selection.

Women’s Athlete of the Week
Valeria Vargas
Trevecca Nazarene
Sophomore
Manchester, TN (Warren County HS)

Vargas helped the Trojans sweep weekly honors with a top-20 performance at the Full Moon Invitational, also in Calera, Ala.

The sophomore fired off round of 77 and 82 for a tournament score of 159. The Trojans would go to finish sixth in the field.

Both rounds represented season bests for Vargas after coming in with a low round of 87 at the William Beall Fall Classic.

This was TNU’s third event of the fall season. Vargas will move into the spring with a scoring average of 86.66 through six rounds completed.

This is her first conference athlete of the week award.
