BLUE ASH, Ohio 
– A cumulative effort from all of the athletics programs resulted in the University of Findlay officially celebrating receipt of the 2018-19 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Presidents’ Cup trophy on Tuesday night. 
 
The Oilers are the third different member institution in the last three years to hoist the hardware and have the highest percentage score for sports within the conference.
 
Findlay officially tallied 181 points to earn the Great Midwest Presidents’ Cup in just its second year with the league. Tiffin was a very close runner-up with 173 points in the Dragons’ first run at the Presidents’ Cup while Walsh finished third with 166 points. 
 
The 2017-18 winner, Hillsdale, finished fourth with 149.5 points and Malone rounded out the top five with 144.5 points. 
 
All 14 Great Midwest member institutions with three associate member institutions were factored into the point total as conference championship competition continued to be raised to a different level in 2018-19. 
 
On hand to receive the award at the conference spring awards banquet at Noah’s Event Center was Findlay director of athletics Brandi Laurita, faculty athletics representative Andrea Mata and multiple student-athlete advisory committee members, including two-year Great Midwest SAAC president Lauren Yacks. 
 
The Oilers secured a total of four Great Midwest postseason titles, including men’s and women’s swimming and diving, women’s golf and women’s lacrosse. UF bolstered its point totals with a men’sbasketball regular-season title for the second year in a row and was runner up in men’s golf and men’s tennis as a championship finalist. 
 
Findlay also made the conference tournament in women’s soccer, women’s basketball and softball, while performing strong across the board during both indoor and outdoor track and field offerings.
 
Findlay secured additional honors with Great Midwest Player of the Year honors in men’s basketball (Alex White), women’s basketball (Anna Hintz), men’s tennis (Tomas Kmetko), women’s tennis (Samantha Sweet), women’s golf (Makenzie Torres) and women’s lacrosse defensive accolades (Brittany Stephens).
 
Track and field standouts included national champions Eldred Henry and Austin Combs from the throws cage and freshman speedster Xavier Marable, the track and freshman athlete of the year during indoor who went on to earn All-American status. Thrower Hannah Hahler also earned field athlete of the meet honors during the indoor championship event. 
 
Coaches of the Year on the Oilers included Andrew Makepeace (men’s swimming & diving), Dominic Guarnieri (women’s golf) and Charlie Ernst (men’s basketball).
