INDIANAPOLIS
– Ten student-athletes comprised the 2018-19 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Golf All-Conference Team through a coaches vote.

Individual award winners were also selected by coaches following the conclusion of the NCAA Division II Central/Midwest Regional in Arkansas.

The top five finishers (and ties) were selected to the all-conference team from the Great Midwest Championship tournament in Lexington, Ky., while an additional four spots were open to the coaches voting.

Rounding out the all-conference team were Tiffin sophomore Noah Barth, Findlay freshman Tanner Grzegorczyk, Hillsdale freshman Josh Davenport and Malone junior Scotty Brown.

Leading the league by over one shot in scoring average for the 2018-19 season was Trevecca Nazarene sophomore Blain Turner as he earned Great Midwest Player of the Year status.

Turner was also the medalist at the conference tournament and was the conference freshman of the year in 2017-18.

Turner’s sensational sophomore year included eight top-10 finishes and a scoring average of 71.69 through 26 rounds. He helped the Trojans qualify for the NCAA Championships in West Virginia with a top-five team finish at the Central/Midwest Regional.

Turner’s best round was a 65 (-7) at the Music City Invitational back in April. He defeated over 92 percent of his opponents faced throughout the season (800-65).

Hillsdale rookie Josh Davenport was tabbed as the Great Midwest Freshman of the Year. Davenport ranked sixth in the conference in scoring average and had four top-10 finishes, including one medalist performance.

He had a 66 (-6) at the Music City Invitational and also carded a 67 (-5) at the Greyhound Invitational while finishing with eight rounds of even par or better.

Receiving the nod from his peers, Trevecca Nazarene’s David Head was selected as the Great Midwest Coach of the Year. The Trojans are back on top of the league after a one-year break under Head’s watch while winning the Great Midwest Championship team title.

Head also guided his program through the tough Central/Midwest Regional to Daniels, W.V., site of this year’s NCAA Championships final round. The Trojans posted the tournament’s best third-round score to finish among the top five qualifying programs.

TNU also paced the conference in team scoring average at 292.00 through 24 rounds scored.
