Golf Athletes of the Week (April 10)

4.10.19

INDIANAPOLIS – Hillsdale (men) and Findlay (women) both received Great Midwest Athletic Conference Golf Athletes of the Week honors as announced on Wednesday.

Men’s Athlete of the Week
Josh Davenport
Hillsdale
Freshman
Binley, Coventry, England (King Henry VII)

Davenport was a top-tier finisher at the Greyhound Invitational at Purgatory in Noblesville, Ind., where the Chargers competed among 17 teams, including Findlay and Tiffin from the league.

The freshman finished third overall in the field with a three-round total of 213 (77-67-69), including two rounds under par to finish out the tourney.

Davenport was 3-under par for the 54 holes to help Hillsdale finish seventh in the team scoring.

The freshman has now recorded four top-10 finishes in 2018-19 and has scored eight rounds of even par or better on the links.

His 67 (-5) was the second-best score of the season for the England product. He fired a 66 earlier this month at the Music City Invitational.

In eight events (20 rounds), he has compiled a scoring average of 72.85, currently fifth overall in the conference. His win-loss record vs. opponents is an impressive 640-100 (.865).

Women’s Athlete of the Week
Meredith Wipper
Findlay
Junior
Hilton Head, SC (Hilton Head HS)

Wipper’s second conference athlete of the week performance for the season stems from a runner-up performance at the Ohio Dominican-hosted NC4K Classic in Blacklick, Ohio.

The Oilers finished a very close second to defending national champion UIndy in the team scoring and the junior’s performance was a big reason for staying within striking distance.

Wipper had a two-round score of 146 (70-76) to finish 2-over par for the tournament as four different Oilers placed in the top 12 overall.

Her first-round total of 70 (-2) was the eighth round by a UF women’s golfer under par in 2018-19.

Wipper is third in the conference in scoring average at 75.63 through 19 rounds played. She has four top-5 finishes with a best round of 67 (-5) at the William Beall Fall Classic.
