INDIANAPOLIS – Following some rainy weekend weather, Findlay and Malone were recognized for Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s & Women’s Golf Athletes of the Week honors on Wednesday morning.
The rains shortened the DII Wally Edgell West Virginia Championship down to one day as Davis & Elkins hosted the men’s competition.
Ohio Dominican served as host to the women’s Cumberland Trail Classic event with three Great Midwest teams participating.
The men had four conference schools competing at the Doc Spragg Fall Invitational hosted by Findlay, including Trevecca, Malone, Tiffin and the Oilers. Weather also played spoiler to the third and final round of the projected 54-hole tourney at Findlay Country Club.
Men’s Athlete of the Week
Luke Kelly
Findlay

Brownsburg, IN (Brownsburg HS)
After a 36-hole tournament score of 143 (-1), Kelly finished the Doc Spragg Fall Invitational tied for fifth place with rounds of 70 and 73. After playing two rounds on Monday, the second day of competition was cancelled due to weather.
Kelly's first round 70 (-2) and second round 73 (+1) set the standard with 31 pars in 36 holes.
Kelly led the host school to a tie for sixth-place as the Oilers posted a 592 (296-296) among a competitive 16-team field.
Kelly is now sixth in the Great Midwest with an average of 72.67, with the Oilers in second place among teams with an average of 292.8. Kelly's 18-hole 70 (-2) is his best round this year tied for 14th in the league.
This season, he already has four top-10 finishes in all four of Findlay’s events.

Christina Williams

Williams contributed to breaking a handful of Malone school records at the Ohio Dominican-hosted Cumberland Trail Classic in both the single round and 36-hole scoring categories.
Williams fired a 71 (-1) and finished with a two-round score of 149 to tie for third in the field.
Williams’ 1-under-par round of 71 on Sunday featured four birdies and broke the previous Pioneer school record of 74, which was set back in 2001. The round also put her tied for fourth lowest round in the G-MAC thus far this season.

Williams tied for third overall at the event, helping the Pioneers finish in 7th place as a team. Williams was also named to the Cumberland Trail Classic All-Tournament Team.
