NORMAN, Okla. – Nine student-athletes representing from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference have been named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars for the 2017-18 academic year.
Malone, Findlay, Alderson Broaddus and conference newcomer Tiffin, were all represented in the list that included student-athletes from across the country from all NCAA divisions.
To qualify for the honor, recipients had to be a junior or senior at an NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, or NAIA institution, and maintain a 3.20 GPA and at least a stroke average of under 78 for NCAA Division II. The student-athlete must also have three years of collegiate playing experience, participate in over 50 percent of their team’s scheduled events and must maintain an excellent academic and moral record with their institution.
Findlay led the way with three selections. The reigning Great Midwest conference champion Oilers’ All-America Scholars selections included junior Dylan DeWitt, senior Justin Roth and senior Cam Wardley.
Tiffin matched Findlay with three golfers of its own after competing in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in 2017-18. The Dragons’ All-America scholars were seniors Jay Green and Jordan Bollenbacher and junior Tomas Krivanec.
Green was also an NCAA Elite 90 Award Winner, an honor dedicated to the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers.
Malone had two selections on the list in seniors Kyle Barnett and Jacob English and Alderson Broaddus brought in the final name to the list with senior Seth Vannoy.
The Srixon/Golf All-America Scholars list included 270 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, 127 from NCAA Division II, 62 from NCAA Division III and 24 from NAIA.
