INDIANAPOLIS – A pair of juniors from Hillsdale and Walsh were tabbed as the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Golf Athletes of the Week as announced on Wednesday.
 
The spring is in full swing for many Great Midwest institutions as they prepare for the conference tournament that will be conducted at Four Bridges Country Club again this year.
 
The men’s and women’s tournaments will be played on different weekends as Trevecca attempts to sustain a dominant run of team championship titles.
 
Men’s Athlete of the Week
Liam Purslowe
Hillsdale
Junior
Perth, West Australia (Guildford HS)
 
Purslowe was the top finisher among all Great Midwest competitors at the Saginaw Valley State Spring Invitational, locking up a tie for sixth overall in the field.
 
The Chargers would end up 10th as a team while Purslowe put together a strong two days at Kearney Hills Golf Links with a 141 (68-73). He was 3-under par for the event and improved his season scoring average to 73.60.
 
Purslowe is now second on Hillsdale in scoring behind teammate Joel Pietila (72.76) and ranks eighth overall in the conference among the leaders. The Chargers are currently fourth in 18-hole scoring, averaging 298.1 strokes her round.
 
Purslowe’s round of 68 (-4) was the second-best on the team this season behind George Roberts’ 67 fired in the second round of the Watrous Intercollegiate.
 
The 68 marked a season-best 18-hole score for the junior from Australia.
 
 
Women’s Athlete of the Week

Vlacovsky blossomed with an impressive showing as the top Great Midwest finisher at the Saginaw Valley State Spring Invitational held in Georgetown, Ky.
 
Vlacovsky tied for fifth in the field with a two-round score of 151 (75-76) as Walsh tied for third overall as a team. A total of five Great Midwest schools were competing, including Trevecca, Ohio Dominican, Kentucky Wesleyan and Alderson Broaddus, in the 17-team field.
 
Vlacovsky’s scoring average paces Walsh on the season through 13.5 rounds at 84.07.
 
The Cavaliers posted their best rounds of the 2017-18 season with a 315 in the first round and a 325 in the final round.
 
It is also the third time this season that Vlacovsky has broken 80 on the scorecard this year. In the fall, she carded a 78 in the second round of the Beall Fall Classic. Vlacovsky has the top three individual rounds on Walsh this season.
