The first member of the Davis & Elkins men’s tennis team to win the Athlete of the Week award this season is Obert Matthew Mulyadi, who had a strong performance this past weekend against West Virginia State.

It was the Senators first match of the season, and Mulyadi took the reigns in the No. 1 Singles and Doubles Flight and won both events in his first action of the year.

In his singles match, he took down West Virginia State’s Caleb Starkey in two sets 6-1, 6-0. He followed that up with his doubles matchup battling Starkey again who was paired with Noah Fulks. Mulyadi was partnered with Alejandro Meseguer. The Senators took that one as well by a score of 8-5.

Women’s Athlete of the Week
Hannah Cimpeanu

Freshman
Troy, MI (Troy HS)

Cimpeanu completes a freshman sweep for the weekly awards in tennis. This also marks the second time this season a Charger has taken home the honors on the women’s side, as she joins teammate Katie Bell.

This comes after Hillsdale took on University of Northwestern Ohio over the weekend. Although the Chargers dropped the meet 5-4, Cimpeanu did her part as she won both of her matches in singles and doubles.

She took on both the No. 2 singles and doubles opponents this past weekend and posted two of Hillsdale’s four wins on Saturday in Toledo. In singles play, she took down Camila Puente, 6-4, 6-2.

She and Halle Hyman then joined forces in doubles play and took down Puente again as well as Melena Lopez, 9-7, to round out the afternoon.
