INDIANAPOLIS - Cedarville junior Matt Brumbaugh (West Milton, OH) earned the label of Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week for the first honor of the 2017-18 academic year on Wednesday.
This is Brumbaugh's third career conference weekly honor after earning 2016 Great Midwest Freshman of the Year honors and a selection on the all-conference team the same year.
Brumbaugh began his junior campaign with a strong start as well, helping lead the Yellow Jackets to a 9-0 victory against West Virginia State in their first match of the season.
Brumbaugh competed in both singles and doubles and was able to win handily in both competitions.
In #1 singles play, he defeated Noah Fulks in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. He also teamed up with Jonathan Class in #1 doubles and together, were able to defeat Fulks with Dylan Jayasunyam 8-1, meaning Brumbaugh only lost one game combined on the day.
Brumbaugh improved his career record in dual competition to 28-21 as a member of the Yellow Jackets.
