TNU’s Swink Tabbed Great Midwest Faculty Mentor of the Year

5.25.17

BLUE ASH, Ohio – As part of the 2017 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Spring Awards Banquet, Trevecca Nazarene’s Jeff Swink was presented with the Faculty Mentor of the Year plaque on Tuesday evening.

Swink is now a repeat winner of the award that is determined by the Great Midwest Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He was joined in attendance with Trevecca Nazarene athletics director Mark Elliott and Trojans’ volleyball head coach/senior woman administrator Jayme Crowley.

Other winners of the Great Midwest Faculty Mentor of the Year award have included Dr. Brenda Patterson of Trevecca Nazarene (2015) and Dr. J.D. Long of Alderson Broaddus (2016). Swink also won the award in 2014, the league’s inaugural offering of the honor.

The following excerpt regarding Swink’s endorsement from Crowley in her nomination form was published in the banquet program. A PDF of the program can be viewed by clicking here.

As decided upon by the G-MAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Jeff Swink, Academic Retention Coordinator at Trevecca Nazarene University, was this year’s honoree for the G-MAC Faculty Mentor of the Year award.

This is the second time that Swink has been selected for the award after earning the same distinguished honor in 2014.

Specifically with the Trojans’ volleyball program on and off the court, Swink has displayed the Division II core values of learning, passion, service, resourcefulness, sportsmanship and balance.

But it’s not just limited to one team. Swink aids TNU student-athletes who might need extra help with individual mentoring, assigning tutors, peer-to-peer evluations, assisting with registration procedures, eligibility and grade checks.

During game day, Swink is dialed in to assist all facets of the program whether that be driving, helping shag balls during practice/warm-ups, running the clock, setting up/taking down equipment or attending team/individual meetings.

Jeff and his wife also open up their home to the team for an occasional meal, especially during the rigors of preseason training. Swink is considered a role model on all levels for the student-athletes and works hard to make a daily impact on the lives of student-athletes.

As the G-MAC award winner at the conference level, Swink will be nominated at the national level towards consideration for the NCAA Division II Dr. Dave Pariser Faculty Mentor of the Year honor.
