INDIANAPOLIS – For the third time in the 2016-17, Davis & Elkins junior Tare Mariga was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week on Monday.
 
This represents Mariga’s second weekly conference honor of the spring season and he also earned monthly honors in the shortened fall campaign.
 
Mariga and the Senators evened their season record to 2-2 in dual action with an 8-1 win against the University of Virginia at Wise on March 4.
 
Mariga won his singles and doubles matches in convincing fashion to help D&E pull away in chilly temperatures.
 
At the No. 2 singles slot, he beat his opponent in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2.
 
In doubles with teammate Ivan Bondarenko, they worked together to defeat UVA-Wise’s top combo with a perfect score of 8-0.
