GREENWOOD, Ind. – Cedarville track & field/cross country senior Forrest Thayer was announced as the 2016 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Friday.
Voting for the 2016 G-MAC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year award was conducted by athletic administrators from each school around the league.
Thayer achieved a GPA of 3.99 in Mechanical Engineering at Cedarville and recently was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-American DII Track & Field/Cross Country Team earlier in the week.
Thayer received two of the highest engineering awards at the institution – Outstanding Scholar in Mechanical Engineering and the Daniel Award (service to others and commitment to the Lord).
Thayer was a four-year letterwinner with the Yellow Jackets and has been an all-conference track selection (2014 outdoor – honorable mention; 2015 indoor – first team; 2015 outdoor – third team) in his career.
Thayer currently holds claim to the G-MAC’s best distance medley relay indoor time set this year with three other teammates at the Grand Valley State Big Meet in 10:02.93. That time also represents a school record at Cedarville.
He helped Cedarville win a total of three conference championships this year alone with cross country and indoor/outdoor track and field.
His leadership is also evident after holding the title of captain for both cross country and track & field squads. Off campus, he taught Sunday School at a local church to 3rd-5th graders.
Previous winners of the G-MAC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award include David Yoder (Cedarville – 2015), Jared Gerber (Cedarville – 2014) and Danny Goins (Urbana – 2013).
