2016 G-MAC Men’s Tennis All-Conference Team Announced

5.1.16

GREENWOOD, Ind. – In conjunction with the conclusion of the women’s tennis tournament, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis All-Conference Team was also announced last week.

A total of eight student-athletes from three institutions comprised this year’s all-conference team.

Davis & Elkins and Cedarville were declared co-champions of the regular season after each team salvaged a split in two head-to-head matchups.

Three selections each for Cedarville and D&E were made and Salem International landed two on the all-conference team.

Great Midwest Athletic Conference: Coach of the Year
ALAN EDLUND – Cedarville University

Edlund and the Yellow Jackets are gearing up for the NCCAA Championships in Mobile, Ala., and are primed for an extended postseason run. After going 14-9 in the regular season, Cedarville’s depth has been notable all season long. Jon Class and Ryan Shomo led the team with 15 wins each in singles while promising freshman Matt Brumbaugh looks like future player of the year material as the team’s No. 1. Cedarville won five of its first six matches to begin the year and started the new calendar year in the same fashion.

Great Midwest Athletic Conference: Freshman of the Year
MATT BRUMBAUGH – Cedarville University - Freshman

It’s not easy stepping in to fill the void at the top singles flight to face arguably the team’s top opponent, especially as a first-year student-athlete, but Brumbaugh did just that. His notable bloodlines and family history run deep at the institution and Matt is the next one in line to carry the torch. He racked up 14 wins in both singles and doubles. His matchups against D&E’s Vincent Hamon indicate there’s growth ahead and his nemesis for the next year; he’s on the rise and one to keep an eye on in the future.

Great Midwest Athletic Conference: Player of the Year
VINCENT HAMON – Davis & Elkins College - Junior

Hamon leads an international mix of talent on the roster that head coach Otis Cutshaw has assembled over the years to develop the program. The junior from Saint Barthelemy, France, showed his leadership at the top of the singles rotation with 14 wins. He has been a part of three conference regular-season titles in as many years collected by the Senators. He was also able to beat Cedarville’s Matt Brumbaugh, the G-MAC Freshman of the Year, in a pair of key head-to-head battles. Hamon will most likely be the conference's career leader in wins for a considerable amount of time when his career wraps up.
